Advancing Environmental and Ecological Statistics
The Environmental and Ecological Statistics Research Group at Lancaster University drives innovation in statistical methods to understand and preserve natural systems, fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge to promote sustainable solutions.

Areas of Expertise
We are a group of statisticians who develop innovative statistical methodology driven by contemporary problems in the environmental sciences and ecology. Our work has led to new scientific understanding of many different physical and chemical processes and ecological systems. Such findings lead to impact in the real world. We work with data on complex processes and systems, for which off-the-shelf statistical models are overly simplistic and often computationally infeasible.

Statistical Ecology
Statistical Ecology is a scientific discipline which has evolved to develop statistical tools to help understand changes in the global environment. Statistical methods have been applied in ecology for many centuries; however, new data collection methods and technologies have resulted in complex data sets which require new modelling approaches to maximise the utility of the information contained in it.
